Projects completed & upcoming Vertical Expansion of Cape Coral Hospital ICU Complete Lee Health’s 12-bed intensive care unit expansion at Cape Coral Hos-pital in Florida is complete. The proj-ect consisted of an 11,190-square-foot vertical expansion to support Cape Coral’s growing population and reduce wait times for patient treatment. In addition to adding 12 ICU rooms and staff support areas with a tie-in to the existing second fl oor, the renovation also increased its dialysis units from four to six. The expanded ICU features an HVAC system with pandemic mode, which can transform the unit into a negative pressure environment to contain and prevent the spread of infectious disease. With a construction budget of $9 million, the project was built by Skanska USA and designed by Studio+. Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion Design Captures Spirit of South Florida Boca Raton Regional Hospital in Florida, part of Baptist Health, recently celebrated the grand opening of the Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion. The pavilion provides a convenient location for outpatient procedures such as same-day surgical care, diagnostic and preventive procedures. A freestanding facility, the pavilion is home to the Baptist Health Orthopedics Institute and houses medical specialty clinics and physician o ces, along with an ambulatory surgery center featuring operating rooms and endoscopy suites. This facility spans three levels and encompasses 61,500 square feet. The primary façade of the pavilion has been adorned with a perforated metal screen — a nod to Florida’s quintessential tropical fl ora. Palm leaves, the Baptist Health pineapple and natural fl orals fi ll the metal screen and create a captivating art display. The interior captures the electrifying spirit of South Florida. The radiance of sunshine and the vivid hues of greens, blues and pinks inspired by seashells are interwoven into both the interior design and architectural aesthetics. Louis and Phyllis Friedman Building at Greater Baltimore Medical Center Opens The new Louis and Phyllis Friedman Building at Greater Baltimore Medical Center has opened to patients. Located in Towson, Maryland, the 117,000-square-foot addition features two clinical fl oors, each comprising a 30-bed medical-telemetry unit. Each new patient room is able to accommodate patient and clinical sta needs, allow space to safely maneuver and features advanced sound proofi ng to facilitate the rest and healing process. 8 Medical Construction & Design | MARCH/APRIL 2024 | MCDMAG.COM Cooperman: Steven Brooke The addition also features a new main entry, three-story atrium, retail pharmacy, café, wellness center and conference center. The project team includes Hammes Healthcare, DPR Construction and Hord Coplan Macht. The building is one of two major capital projects that are part of GBMC’s Promise Project. The other is the Sandra R. Berman Pavilion, a new 70,000-square-foot cancer center that will open in early 2025.
