Friend of the In Honor of Martin “Marty” Reynolds (1953–2024) Beef Expo The Beef Expo community pauses to honor and remember Martin “Marty” Reynolds of Lucas, Io-wa—a man whose life reflected the very heart of agriculture and the values that define the beef industry. Marty passed away on December 9, 2024, at the home he loved most: the family farm. Born on February 2, 1953, to Burdette and Ramona (Heckman) Reynolds, Marty grew up learning the meaning of hard work, stewardship, and family. After graduating from Southeast Warren High School in 1971, he chose a life rooted in the land, devoting himself fully to the family operation, the BR Ranch. Over the years, Marty took the reins of the farm and transformed it into more than a business—it became a gathering place, a homestead, and a legacy for his sib -lings, children, grandchildren, and countless friends. For nearly three decades, Marty also served the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Maintenance, where his strong work ethic and deep knowledge became invaluable. Through this role, he was also a familiar and respected presence at the Iowa Beef Expo, quietly playing a behind-the-scenes role in helping the Expo operate smoothly year after year. To coworkers and fairgoers alike, he was a familiar, trusted presence—someone who always had a story to tell, a les-son to share, or a helping hand ready. His love for the fair and for Iowa agriculture was evident in everything he did. As longtime Iowa Beef Expo exhibitor Tom Olin shared in remembrance of Marty: “The past many years I have been a vendor at the Iowa Beef Expo. With this being said, I’ve had many small talk conversations with Marty. As years pass these visits became very enjoyable as well as memorable. All that I can add is that I’m a better person for knowing Marty!” Marty will be remembered as “one of the good ones.” He was kind and genuine, with a gift for storytelling and a simple way of reminding people to slow down and enjoy the moment. He loved shar -ing photos and memories, celebrating everyday life just as much as life’s milestones. Though Marty’s presence will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on through the land he cared for, the cattle he raised, and the people whose lives he touched. The Beef Expo is honored to recog -nize Marty Reynolds as a Friend of the Beef Expo—a fitting tribute to a life spent supporting agriculture, family, and the values that keep our industry strong. His steady presence, dedication, and quiet pride in the work behind the scenes will forever be part of the foundation that makes the Iowa Beef Expo a place where agriculture, community, and tradition come together. His story will continue to be told, just as he would have wanted—through shared memories, familiar laughter, and a lasting appreciation for the simple joys of rural life.
